Environmental protection and sustainability are two key activities HePIS focuses on, demonstrating strong support for any initiative that utilizes ICT for the improvement of environmental conditions and encourages energy efficiency solutions. HePIS encourages ICT professionals to propose new ways of office-equipment usage which will ultimately lead to reduction of energy consumption and improvement of environmental conditions
As climate change is increasingly becoming a global threat, HEPIS supports initiatives which encourage the use of ICT equipment that significantly contribute to the reduction of energy consumption and the recycling of ICT products.
HePIS manages the Green ICT taskforce of CEPIS which acts in the following areas:
- To raise the Green ICT issues to Greece and to participate in all relevant initiatives and events.
- To increase the actions of our members in order to promote the ideas of Green ICT.
- To ensure that ICT professionals have the required knowledge to handle the Green ICT issues and that are capable to design solutions and operate systems in accordance to Green ICT rules.
- To mobilize the end users of ICT products to change habits and to ensure that they purchase and use ICT devices which are compatible with Green criteria.
- To establish the allocation of rewards for organizations that adopt and apply Green ICT practices in their daily operations.
- To promote the adoption of good practices on Green ICT by adopting a Green ICT certification or a Green ICT mark/sign.
