The Hellenic Professionals Informatics Society (HePIS), and the Council of  European Professionals Informatics Society (CEPIS) which represents more than 300.000 ICT professionals across Europe, are co-hosting Digital Trends 2011, the first Forum in Greece to encourage dialogue on the contribution of the ICT sector to the boost of the economy, the growth of production, the formation of a creative culture, the adoption of  ‘Green’ and ‘Cloud’ practices and the strengthening of the industry professionals’ overall role within the business community.

The aim of the forum

The ICT sector is called to respond to two challenges: the economic recession and the ongoing struggle to balance the ICT and business units of an organization towards the efficient and cost effective business operation. The aim of the Digital Trends conference is to help the ICT sector to form a comprehensive strategy, incorporating best practices in Green ICT and Cloud Computing, in order to maximize business profits.

The Forum will focus on the business dimension of Cloud Computing and Green ICT, through offering ICT and business professionals a useful guide to the introduction of an organization to the new business environment. The Forum will combine international speakers, national and international case studies and Greek best practices, through interactive presentations of key cloud computing providers .

Issues to be addressed

The forum will focus on the following:

"Green" practices, business benefits and migration plans

  • Moving to Green ICT: Methodologies that guarantee success according to the specific needs of an organization
  • Today’s challenges and how to overcome them
  • A guide to cost reduction and innovation maximization
  • Green ICT adoption levels
  • What are the implementation challenges? Are there any restriction policies within companies?
  • What are the specifications that data centers need to have to be Green?

2nd Section
The 'business case' of cloud computing and its corporate value

  • "The third ICT wave". What does it mean, what is the infrastructure and the main characteristics of Cloud Computing
  • Where are we today and are the future trends for corporations
  • Business factors that lead to the decision to adopt Cloud Computing
  • Why the turn towards Cloud is inevitable and necessary
